July 8 CPSC eFiling Deadline: What Every Importer Needs to Do Now

7Jul, 2026
CPSC efiling

Beginning July 8, 2026, CPSC eFiling becomes mandatory for imported products regulated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). For many importers, this represents one of the most significant compliance changes in recent years.

The new requirement is designed to improve product safety oversight while giving CPSC and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) greater visibility into imported consumer products before they enter U.S. commerce.

If your company imports products subject to CPSC regulations, now is the time to prepare.

What is CPSC eFiling?

CPSC eFiling is the electronic submission of certificate data for products that require a Certificate of Compliance.

Instead of relying on paper certificates that may only be reviewed after arrival, importers must now transmit compliance information electronically through CBP’s Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) as part of the entry process.

The goal is to help regulators identify higher-risk shipments sooner while allowing compliant cargo to move more efficiently.

Who Is Affected?

The requirement applies to importers of products regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

These include hundreds of product categories, such as:

  • Children’s products
  • Toys
  • Household appliances
  • Furniture
  • Consumer electronics
  • Lighting products
  • Recreational equipment
  • Other consumer goods subject to mandatory CPSC standards

CPSC has published guidance identifying hundreds of HTS classifications likely to require electronic filing. However, the published list is not exhaustive, and importers remain responsible for determining whether their products require certification.

What Importers Need to Do

Before July 8, companies should take several important steps:

  • Create a CPSC eFiling account if one has not already been established.
  • Register each manufacturer supplying regulated products.
  • Review product classifications to determine whether CPSC certification applies.
  • Confirm Certificates of Compliance are complete and current.
  • Coordinate with your customs broker to ensure the required PGA data is transmitted through ACE.
  • Review supplier information for accuracy before shipments depart.

Waiting for cargo to arrive may create unnecessary delays.

Why Preparation Matters

Mandatory eFiling introduces another layer of compliance into the customs clearance process.

Missing manufacturer information, incomplete certificates, or inaccurate product data could result in shipment reviews, requests for additional documentation, or clearance delays.

Like many recent regulatory changes, success depends on preparation rather than reaction.
