While our Los Angeles branch has only been open since 2013, branch manager Ken Thoi has been colleagues for more than two decades with Everglory Logistics founders Joe Phan and Ray Mui.
The LA office opened with two people but in the past five years has grown to a staff of nine. Located just miles from the largest port complex in the United States in Gardena, California, LA handles a high volume of shipments headed to Mexico in-bond for manufacturers operating just over the border, as well as transshipments in Latin America and South America.
Each of our branches has a niche, or specialty, of what they handle. In the case of Los Angeles, because of the connectivity of both LAX and the LA/LGB port complex, we see and move many retail level goods such as electronics, clothing and cellphone accessories. If not moving intact, we arrange for the transshipment of cargo and have strong volumes locally into the Inland Empire, the Rocky Mountain region as well as to the US East Coast where our customers take advantage of the time gained through transshipment and domestic intermodal after Customs clearance on the West Coast.
In Los Angeles, Ken says, because of the number of different industries in the area, we have developed expertise in a few other specialty areas. We deftly handle shipments of apparel from China, Vietnam and other places in Asia, display products for the entertainment business and have developed a deep understanding of FDA-regulated consumer devices.
A native Bostonian himself who relocated to California, Everglory is extremely lucky to have Ken managing our Los Angeles operation. With offices in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta, Everglory is situated at key centers of commerce for our clients and we are proud of the job that our teams do around the country.
